Crystal Creek Cabin sits under large cedar trees on 80 acres adjoining the Mt. Hood National Forest. The cabin is a five-to-ten minute hike up from where you park — steep, worth it — and when you arrive, the creek is right there, cascading below the porch. Rachel and her partner built it from trees they harvested with a sawmill on the property, plus Redwood and Douglas Fir salvaged from an old water tower that once stood on the mountain.
It's an off-grid cabin, quiet by design. A Honda generator is available for lights and outlets, or skip it entirely and use the lanterns and candles Rachel leaves inside. The wood stove handles cold months; the covered porch handles rain. As one guest put it: "100% private but not scary remote — natural white noise to ensure you sleep like a baby, brought to you by a beautiful cabin-side waterfall."
Arrive in daylight — the path up is sparsely lit. Pack a day pack; guests who overpacked regret it. The rewards at the top: a king bed with linens, a fire ring, a hammock, a large picnic table, and a wood-fired hot tub looking out into the trees.
A single off-grid cabin on 80 acres of old-growth forest, constructed by hand from wood harvested on the property. Sleeps two; king bed; covered porch over the water.
The only stay on the property — a hand-built cabin for two under cedar trees, with a covered porch above the creek and your own waterfall audible through the windows all night.
"The cabin is a stone's throw from a roaring creek — my absolute favorite sound to fall asleep to."
This place is complete magic. If you want to find tranquility, I highly recommend it. It felt so nice to be with the water and away from the world. I will absolutely be back soon!
Sweet spot. The cabin is a stone's throw from a roaring creek, which is my absolute favorite sound to fall asleep to. The hike in is lovely but no joke. Nice touch: they already had a fire lit when I arrived and had exactly enough wood to keep me warm my entire stay.
My fifth trip to this amazing cabin. 100% private but not scary remote — natural white noise to ensure you sleep like a baby, brought to you by a beautiful cabin-side waterfall. The most thoughtful and expertly built cozy cabin we've ever stayed in.
Just an incredible spot filled with thoughtful touches. The cabin and property is amazing. 10/10. The host is responsive and helpful. Check-in is easy to figure out. Everything about my stay was stellar.
Rachel built this cabin with her partner from trees they harvested on their own 80-acre property — cedar from the land, salvaged Redwood and Douglas Fir from a local water tower. She opened it to guests in July 2017 and has held a Star Host designation ever since, which means fast replies, accurate listings, and a consistently five-star experience. She thinks of the details guests don't: firewood already lit on arrival, coffee and a drip cloth inside, lanterns and candles so you never need the generator. "Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven," one guest wrote. She hopes you'll find it that way too.
